Local Context

The project aims to empower rural settlements in the Land Credit Program, in Tocantins state, generating increased local sustainability resources. The initiative lasted from 2006 to 2007 and was supported by Seagro.

Project Description

The project includes 14 rural communities. About 300 farming families have been benefited. The themes discussed were: Associations and Cooperatives, Agroecology, Bio Jewelry, Commercialization of Family Production, Leadership Training, Sustainable Management of Animals, Women Farmers and Hygiene Practices in Food Handling.

The main objective was the training of farmers on issues that enable the sustainable development of their communities, encourage entrepreneurship and strengthen gender relations. Among the results, the highlights were the development of the concept of agro-ecosystem between farmers; the spread to the community about the importance of the involvement of women and social gender relations; and the transfer of management, marketing and standardization techniques.
