OBJECTIVES

TEEP – Tocantins Energy, Education and Participation – is a program of information and technical training for public and private institutions and local leaders, to achieve a more effective participation, in the processes of planning the implantation of development projects.

TEEP was drawn up during the First Seminar of Environmental Education in the Hydroelectric Industry, held in September 2000 in Palmas, Tocantins State, when it was felt necessary to train public and private institution technicians and community groups involved in the discussion and development processes of new HEUs.

The option to apply the program in Tocantins State was decided taking into consideration the big Hydroelectric potential in the State that is 3.45% of all Brazil. This imposes that measures are taken to secure that this potential is correctly developed, in a coherent manner, benefiting the society, respecting the local residents and environment and, offering better negotiating and participating conditions for all the stakeholders involved in the process.
