Sweet Potato: Bioenergy in family agriculture



What it is:
The program aims to implement an integrated production model for the production and commercialization of alcohol and animal feed ration derived form the cultivation of sweet potato, involving small rural communities in Tocantins State.

Pium and Porto Nacional Municipals, Tocantins.

Duration time:
2006 to 2009.

UFT, Sebrae, Seagro, Investco, Pium and Porto Nacional Municipal Councils.

Components:
Training and Technical Assistance for Small Rural Producers, Implantation of Alcohol and Animal Feed Ration production systems produced from the cultivation of sweet potatoes and the Broadcasting of the Best Practices. 





The areas involved in the project are located in Bioma Cerrado, a rural environment even though Pium is approximately 120 km from Palmas which is the capital of Tocantins State. The project will have two bio-alcohol and animal feed ration production units.


OBJECTIVES
    Teach the producers techniques and knowledge of collective sustainable production;

    Implant fabrication systems for the production of bio-fuels and animal feed ration;

    Create a communication mechanism to broadcast the project seeking to replicate the model and its own sustainability.

EXPECTED RESULTS
    The formation of two cooperatives for the benefit of 40 associates;

    Generate an annual income of at least R$ 720,000.00 from the commercialization of 840.000 liters of alcohol;

    Generate a monthly income from the project of at least two minimum salaries and an improved quality of life for each associated person;

    Generate 100 jobs from the sweet potato production and processing;

    Improve the sustainable indicators of the rural communities benefited by the program.
